Who we are

Mater Sardinia is a young Sardinian tourist and cultural association. Our aim are: 1) contributing to the cultural and economic developement of Sardinia; 2) giving our members the opportunity to have experience of cultural exchange and personal development and 3) contributing so that a harmonious relation between person and environment could be get. To be specific, we want to develop a new idea of well-being tourism located here, in Sardinia. If you are a traveller (and not simply a tourist), this is your web site.

Why well-being tourism? If a travel doesn't give rise to well-being, it is not a travel. It could be tourism, not travel. So we think that. Well-being is nature, genuine food, culture, void space, silence, the run of a landscape, meditation, a walk looking for herbs and flowers, the awareness of the own breath, the crowd of a festival, a little secluded country church, the knowing of real people, a massage...

Our projects. In order to attain our aims, we have grew some different travel and experience projects. If you will take part in one of our travels, automatically you will become our member. In this way you will contribute to attain the aims of the association. You contribution simply follow your participation: your cultural heritage will be shared with our and others one, you will relate to others, and all together we will learn to relate to the environment whose we are part in a more harmonious way. Therefore it is not to strive to do something, but simply to do it.

Our travel projects

Montevecchio. East plantsMen and mines. Very few knows it: up to the end of the XX century Sardinia was one of the most important mining district of the west Europe. Between XIX and XX century, a great deal of big and small mines opened in every area of the island. Lead, zinc, iron, copper, coal, were the more abundant minerals. Mater Sardinia manages a web site dealing with it: Mines of Sardinia. Visit it, then come to know this really interesting Sardinian heritage.

Trebina Longa, uno dei due neck del Monte ArciRocks, fossils, volcans (extinct). Sardinia is an ancient land. Its antiquity marks are to be read with care and attention. You need eyes to get and read them, but mainly will to enter a domain pretty without time for us. To say it cold, it is Sardinian geology. To say it warm, they are the marks our planet slow life has left in this Mediterrinean island.

the cyclopic wall of the front of the nuraghe OroloThe spirit of Sardinia. The crush of the beachs, the traffic of the big towns, the chatter of the people sat in the pub disturb it. Therefor it took refuge inland, chose the wide void spaces, the sound of the water flowing out the springs, the rustle of the leaves, the rough of the rocks, the marks of a very ancient past. We don't warrant you to seize it (how could we dare it?), but we will take you close to it. The remainder is your task.
